ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 21, 2006 <br />Action Agen/da- <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Resolution To Recognize Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass for Expenditure <br />Reductions Through Alternative Funding <br />DEPARTMENT: BOCC PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Yes -Resolution Donna Baker, 245-2130 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a resolution recognizing Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass and the Orange <br />County Sheriffs Department for implementing significant improvements in County law <br />enforcement services without increasing casts to County taxpayers. <br />BACKGROUND: The Orange County Sheriffs Department under the leadership of Sheriff <br />Lindy Pendergrass has aggressively pursued grants and alternative funding while providing law <br />enforcement services to County citizens. The Sheriffs Office has purchased and equipped a <br />Special Response Team truck with donations from private citizens. Department members have <br />received specialized Homeland Security training through federal grants. By observing fuel <br />conservation vehicle mileage has been reduced an average of 10,000 to 15,000 miles each <br />month. Over $1,000,000 worth of egtaipment has been acquired through the Federal Surplus <br />program at no cost to Orange County taxpayers. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: NONE <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the attached <br />resolution recognizing Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass for providing and improving law enforcement <br />services without increasing costs, and authorize the Chair to sign the resolution. <br />
