Our recommendations to
the Board of County Commissioners are as follows:
1) "Veterinarian from the Health Board" (Position #1): The ASAB recommends that Dr.
Susan Elmore be reappointed as she is continuing her service to the Health Board and
continues to be highly engaged in the affairs of our board. (We would note that
forthcoming proposed revisions of the policies and procedures for the ASAB indicate
that the Health Board Veterinarian will continue to serve in this position for as long as
they are appointed to the Health Board.)
2) "Town of Chapel Hill" representative (Position #3): The ASAB is not making a
recommendation for this position given our understanding that it is the prerogative of
the Chapel Hill Town Council to do so.
3) "At Large (Non-Municipal)" (Position #8): The ASAB is recommending the appointment
of Diane Obeid to this position based upon her broad interest and experience with
animals and concern with animal issues. Ms. Obeid's interview with the ASAB indicated
a high level of motivation and a good fit as well.
4) "Animal Welfare/Animal Advocacy" (Position #10): The ASAB is recommending the
reappointment of Maureane Hoffman, MD, PhD. She is currently serving as the ASAB
Chair (and previously served as Vice-Chair). She is also helping to facilitate collaboration
between IAR and Animal Services staff in regard to community cats.
5) "Animal Welfare/Animal Advocacy" (Position #11): The ASAB is recommending the
reappointment of Molly Mullin, PhD. She is currently serving as the ASAB Chair. She is
also part of the coordinated effort to add animal art to the county's Animal Services
Center.
