7 <br /> 1 (Gledhill Family) <br /> 2 Funding Partners: <br /> 3 $34,125 (36%) Orange County (Lands Legacy) <br /> 4 $37,125 (39%) Upper Neuse Clean Water Initiative <br /> 5 (Grant to Eno River Association) <br /> 6 $23,750 (25%) Landowner donation (Gledhill family) <br /> 7 $95,000 (100%) Easement value <br /> 8 Easement purchase price = $71,250 <br /> 9 Lick Creek Conservation Easement (Gledhill Family) <br /> 10 Working with landowners and other partners to protect special places in Orange County <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Commissioner Price read the resolution: <br /> 13 <br /> 14 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 15 RESOLUTION <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Approval of Conservation Easement <br /> 18 between <br /> 19 Orange County and the Eno River Association <br /> 20 and <br /> 21 Geoffrey and Jane Gledhill <br /> 22 <br /> 23 WHEREAS, Orange County has adopted goals that promote the preservation of natural areas, <br /> 24 wildlife habitat, prime farmland, and open space in the county; and <br /> 25 <br /> 26 WHEREAS, Orange County established the Lands Legacy Program for the purpose of <br /> 27 protecting the most significant natural and cultural resources through partnerships with <br /> 28 landowners and other conservation entities; and <br /> 29 <br /> 30 WHEREAS, one component of the Lands Legacy Program is the acquisition of conservation <br /> 31 easements on riparian buffers within water supply watersheds; and <br /> 32 <br /> 33 WHEREAS, the Gledhill — Lick Creek property includes approximately 30 acres in the Upper <br /> 34 Eno protected watershed that includes 6,000 linear feet of streams that drain to the East Fork <br /> 35 Eno River and to Lake Orange - a drinking water supply reservoir for Hillsborough; and <br /> 36 <br /> 37 WHEREAS, Geoffrey and Jane Gledhill, the owners of the Lick Creek property, wish to grant a <br /> 38 permanent conservation easement to Orange County and the Eno River Association, which will <br /> 39 protect the forested riparian corridors on the property; and <br /> 40 <br /> 41 WHEREAS, a conservation easement on this approximately 30 acres would ensure the <br /> 42 preservation of this forested property and stream buffers for future generations; <br /> 43 <br /> 44 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners does <br /> 45 hereby 1) accept on behalf of Orange County the conservation easement for land owned by <br /> 46 Geoffrey and Jane Gledhill; 2) approve the execution of this conservation easement agreement <br /> 47 with Geoffrey and Jane Gledhill, in accordance with the terms of the proposed easement <br /> 48 agreement, subject to final review by staff and the County Attorney; 3) authorize the Chair and <br /> 49 the Clerk to sign the easement agreement on behalf of the Board, with a closing to occur on or <br />
