1 <br /> 1 Attachment 1 <br /> 2 <br /> 3 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 4 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 5 REGULAR MEETING <br /> 6 May 16, 2017 <br /> 7 7:00 p.m. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 <br /> 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Dorosin and Commissioners Mia Burroughs, <br /> 13 Mark Dorosin, Barry Jacobs, Earl McKee, Mark Marcoplos, Renee Price and Penny Rich <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Travis Myren and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Chair Dorosin noted the following items at the Commissioners' places: <br /> 25 - PowerPoint for Item 4-b <br /> 26 - PowerPoint and Master Aging Plan (MAP) presentation for Item 4-d <br /> 27 - Veterans Memorial information <br /> 28 - Southern Neighbor information <br /> 29 - Information for Item 6-a <br /> 30 <br /> 31 PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Chair Dorosin dispensed with the reading of the public charge. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 2. Public Comments <br /> 36 <br /> 37 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 38 James Merritt said he is the co-chair of the Veterans Memorial group. He said the <br /> 39 groundbreaking will be held on May 29th at 3:00 p.m. at Southern Human Services Center, and <br /> 40 welcomed all to attend. <br /> 41 Barbara Elder said she is speaking on behalf of NAMI-Orange, Faith Connections on <br /> 42 Mental Illness, and Mental Health Community Connections, all of which serve children and <br /> 43 families suffering with mental illness. She said May is National Children's Mental Health month, <br /> 44 and noted that many schools are promoting awareness of the issue. She gave a more detailed <br /> 45 description of the services offered by Mental Health Community Connections. She thanked the <br /> 46 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC)for its efforts on behalf of mental health needs. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 49 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda <br /> 50 below.) <br />
