Matters on the Printed Agenda
(These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda
below.)

3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members
Commissioner Jacobs said the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) used to have
annual dinner meetings with the Board of Health (BOH), the Department of Social Services
(DSS), the Affordable Housing Advisory Board (AHAB), and the Planning Board. He said he
would like to have a discussion as to why these meetings were removed.
Commissioner Jacobs suggested instituting a County boycott of Georgia Pacific
products of Coke Industries, such as paper towels, etc., because this company has a history of
attacking democratic institutions.
Commissioner Rich petitioned John Roberts to talk with the Chapel Hill Attorney about
chamber dues. She said both towns (Chapel Hill and Carrboro) do not pay these dues, as they
are considered a conflict of interest. She said she would like to know the Chapel Hill Attorney's
view on this.
Commissioner Rich petitioned to create an Economic Development work group between
the County and Chapel Hill, initially comprised of staff, but with Board members to follow. She
said it is not too early to discuss economic development in relationship connected to the light
rail (LRT) project.
Commissioner Rich asked Travis Myren if he could create a fact sheet for the BOCC
about transit. She said it is important to have accurate information circling through the
community.
Commissioner Rich said she went on a recycling field trip to the MRF in Raleigh. She
said there are machines and humans involved in this process. She stressed the importance of
keeping plastic grocery store bags out of recycling, as they clog the machinery. She said these
bags can be recycled at local grocery stores.
Commissioner Marcoplos had no comments.
Commissioner Burroughs had no comments.
Commissioner McKee had no comments.
Chair Dorosin followed up Commissioner Rich's request about economic development,
and said starting such a group was part of the transit agreement. He said affordable housing
around the Legion Park area should also be researched.
Chair Dorosin said he would like to review the BOCC meeting calendar, noting there are
over 50 meetings a year.
The Clerk said the BOCC has nine public meetings between now and June 20th, and two
closed sessions.
Chair Dorosin encouraged the Board to be conscientious of the time it takes to hold a
meeting, including the amount of prep work necessary by staff. He asked if this topic could be
referred to agenda review.

4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/ Special Presentations

a. Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
