Mills, Division Engineer <br />3, 2005-2006 Secondary Road Construction <br />Program <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Karen Lincoln, 245-2594 <br />PURPOSE: To discuss and receive comment on North Carolina Department of <br />Transportation's Proposed 2005/2006 Secondary Roads Construction Program for Orange <br />County, <br />BACKGROUND: Chapter 136-44,8 of the General Statutes of North Carolina (NCGS) requires <br />that North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) meet with the Board of County <br />Commissioners at a public meeting to present to and discuss with the board and other citizens <br />proposed secondary road paving projects (Secondary Roads Construction Program). NCDOT, <br />in compliance with NCGS 136-44.8, has posted in the Orange County Courthouse a county <br />map showing tentative secondary road paving projects, and has published notice of the public <br />hearing in county newspapers (the Mebane Enterprise, The News of Orange and The Chapel <br />Hill News). <br />The 2005/2006 allocation for Orange County secondary roads totals $ 267,460, The allocation <br />includes: <br />Paving Rural <br />Rural Paving Priority (1 road segment- 0,90 mile) $ 200,000 <br />Subdivision Paving Priority (3 roads - 0,44 mile) $ 44,000 <br />Contingency $ 23,460 <br />Total $ 267,460 <br />The FY 2005/2006 allocation represents an 81 % decrease in funding from the allocation for the <br />2004/2005 Orange County Secondary Roads Construction Program. <br />In accordance with North Carolina General Statute §136-44,8, the board of county <br />commissioners may (i) concur in the construction program as proposed, or (ii) take no action, or <br />(iii) make recommendations for deviations in the proposed construction program, except as to <br />
