ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 2, 2006 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~ ~-h <br />SUBJECT: Resolution To Recognize Bob Hall for Community Involvement and Political <br />Reform and Oversight <br />DEPARTMENT: BOCC <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (YIN) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Yes -Resolution <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Donna Baker, (919) 245-2130 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a resolution recognizing Bob Hall for his volunteer work in Orange <br />County and political activism across the State of North Carolina. <br />BACKGROUND: Bob Hall has had a positive impact on changing politics in the South. From <br />fighting racism in his younger years during the early 1960s to driving campaign finance reform <br />today, Bob Hall has improved the Iccal democratic process. As a resident of Orange County, <br />he has been appointed by the BOCG to serve on the Economic Development Commission, the <br />Jury Commission, and the Comprehensive Plan Land Use Committee. Bob Hall has provided <br />research to bring to light the use of special-interest money in U.S. Senate races, hog farming, <br />and road-building and continues, to this day, to fight to improve campaign funding regulations, <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: NONE <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adapt the attached <br />resolution recognizing Bob Hall for community volunteer involvement and his active role in <br />campaign finance reform across the State of North Carolina, <br />
