Petition Letter & Secondary Road Addition <br />Investigation Reports far: <br />Creek Wood Dr. <br />Creek Run Court <br />Creek Ridge Lane <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Karen Lincoln, 245-2594 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a petition to add subdivision roads in Creek Wood subdivision to the <br />State Maintained Secondary Road System. <br />BACKGROUND: The developer of Creek Wood subdivision has petitioned the North Carolina <br />Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to accept maintenance responsibilities for Creek Woad <br />Drive (25 homes), Greek Run Court, formerly "Creek Run", (6 homes) and Creek Ridge Lane, <br />formerly "Wood Ridge Lane", (15 homes). Creek Waod subdivision is located off the west side <br />of Turkey Farm Road in Chapel Hill Township. The Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />approved the preliminary plat for Creek Woad subdivision in March 1999, stipulating in its <br />resolution of approval that "All roads shall be irrevocably dedicated to the general public and be <br />constructed to the standards of the North Carolina Department of Transportation" and that <br />"approval of this resolution authorizes and directs the Orange County Manager to accept for <br />Orange County and on behalf of the public generally, the offer of dedication of Creek Woad <br />Drive, Creek Run, Woad Ridge Lane, Bridgeton Drive and Forest Creek Road .. without <br />maintenance responsibility." <br />The resolution further states that the owner/applicant shall maintain those roads "until such time <br />as they are accepted for maintenance by the North Carolina Department of Transportation or <br />some other governmental body." <br />Bridgeton Place (formerly Bridgeton Drive) and Forest Creek Road currently lack the required <br />density of at least two (2) occupied homes for each one-tenth of a mile, or a minimum of four <br />occupied homes for roads less than two-tenths of a mile in length to be accepted by the <br />NCDOT for maintenance. <br />NCDOT has investigated the request (please refer to attached Secondary Road Addition <br />Report), and has submitted the petition to the Board of Commissioners for its review and <br />
