Protection of natural resources, i e., habitat maintenance, existing vegetation and mitigation of
environmentally sensitive areas:
1. The project is adjacent to existing Storey Lane and therefore utilizes the existing Storey Lane
roadway to provide access to the site. This siting eliminates the need for additional access
roads. The location of the proposed site is along the southwestern edge of the property on
existing road frontage (NC 86 and Storey Lane), allowing the remaining 18 5 acres to remain
intact, Disturbance of the site is limited to areas already developed along the roadways, The
remaining unbroken tract of land creates a large area for animal habitat and protects sensitive
areas, such as, the drainage way, intermittent stream which flows under NC 86 and through
the site.
B. Ownership and maintenance of open spaces:
1. All open spaces on the site will be owned by Orange County. Landscaped buffers and
stream buffers are available throughout the site.
C. Solid Waste Plan Storrwater Management Plans:
1. Stormwater management will be provided by the installation of a bioretention area on the
northwest coiner of the proposed construction site. This water treatment facility will treat
runoff from the building and parking lot areas. A grass -lined Swale is provided around the
buildings and parking areas to further treat runoff prior to its release through a level
spreader or the bioretention area. Erosion control is provided by a sediment basin and
skimmer at the location of the future bioretention area and silt ditches and fences which
direct flow and contain it on the site. This Stormwater Management Plan as provided will
result in removal of 85% of the total suspended solids, as required by the State of North
Carolina
2. The Solid Waste Management Plan at this facility will incorporate the trash and recycling
facilities on the Stanback Middle School site, which is located south of the project on Storey
Lane. Stanback's existing trash dumpster and recycling carts will be available for waste and
recycling items generated by the Alternative School.
D. Handling of land - clearing debris:
1. The construction of the school will include the requirement for chipping and grinding of the
land - clearing debris and utilizing it as mulch around the project and its adjacent site.
Michael t.
