b) US Highway 70 Redevelopment Project <br />The Town of Hillsborough and Orange County have identified the US 70 corridor as an <br />excellent economic re-development opportunity, Monies were used from the NCDOT'Moving <br />Ahead' grant project to resurface and widen the roadway, This is a start to improve the corridor <br />through an overall plan that can eventually promote reinvestment through access management, <br />sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, and commitment by local government. <br />The corridor is concentrated around the Ghurtan Street (NC 86)/US 70 intersection, but is <br />important within a mile in either direction as new development invests side by side with <br />redevelopment opportunities. <br />The Boards may want to hear from staffs and share any relevant information on this issue. <br />No Attachments <br />c) Animal Control <br />Orange County Animal Control -now within the Animal Services Department -has historically <br />provided animal control services to the Town of Hillsborough, Staff understands that the Town <br />has adopted the County's Animal Control Ordinances so that these services could be delivered <br />"seamlessly" under identical statutes, Animal Control officers are presently working on three <br />dog-related cases within the Town -nuisance barking, pet contact with a rabid skunk, and a <br />stray, Animal Services Director Bab Marotto is unaware of any other specific animal control <br />complaints or issues within the Town at this time, He has not, however, conducted the same <br />deliberate outreach with the Police Department as done with the Towns of Garrboro and Chapel <br />Hill. The County has annual contracts with Chapel Hill and Garrboro for animal control and/or <br />EARS (Emergency Animal Rescue Services) in the current amounts of $ 71,812 and $6,000 <br />respectively. <br />The Boards may want to discuss any possible issues or concerns related to animal control, <br />specifically in the Fairview community. <br />No Attachments <br />d) Policing <br />This item is included to give the Boards the opportunity to review any possible issues related to <br />law enforcement activities in the Fairview area and discuss any possibilities for future <br />cooperation/collaboration that may be worthy of consideration. <br />No Attachments <br />e) Adequate Use of Space at Community Policing Center <br />The original facility agreement with the Town around 2002 included dedicated space (two <br />offices and a storage area) for projected human service functions. Public Health made brief use <br />of one of the rooms -specially outfitted with a sink for clinical purposes -far its visiting nurse <br />program far about a year or so. Other human services departments (Manager's Office, <br />Cooperative Extension, Housing and Community Development, Recreation and Parks) have <br />
