ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: February 21, 2006 <br />Action Agennda_ ~ <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Leadership Advisory Committee for Carolina North-Appointments <br />DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners PUBLIC NEARING: (YIN) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): Under Separate Cover INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Letters from UNC-CH Clerk's Office, 245-2130 <br />Pt1RPOSE: To consider making appointments to the Leadership Advisory Committee for Carolina <br />North. <br />BACKGROUND: Orange County, along with the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro has been asked <br />to join with the University of North Carolina at Chapel HiII in the planning of Carolina North. <br />The purpose of the Leadership Advisory Committee for Carolina North is to get community input on <br />Carolina North from as broad a range of interest as possible, The process is intending to produce a set <br />of principles that will guide the University in its preparation of plans that will be submitted to the local <br />governing bodies in their regulatory functions. <br />Orange County has been asked to select two persons for membership on the committee, These <br />appointments can, but do not need to be, elected officials.. <br />In addition to the views of the committee members, the committee will also seek the opinions of the <br />public at large. There will be ample opportunities for persons nat on the committee to address the <br />committee publicly or by written or electronic communications. <br />The Board, at its on discretion, appoint members to this Committee in the following ways: <br />1. Two BOCC members, to be appointed immediately <br />2. One BOCC member and one designated citizen, to be appointed immediately <br />3. One BOCC appointed immediately, and advertise for one citizen representative, who will be <br />appointed later.. <br />However, the Leadership Advisory Committee for Carolina North will be convening its first meeting soon, <br />and if the Board decided to advertise for a citizen volunteer, that person may miss one or more meetings <br />on the Committee. <br />
