ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: February 21, 2006 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~-Gl -1... <br />SUBJECT: Orange/Chatham Leadership Council <br />DEPARTMENT: Clerk to the Board <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />County Manager's Office <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Membership Recommendations <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Commissioner Moses Carey, 245-2125 <br />Sharron Hinton, 245-2302 <br />PURPOSE: To appoint the members of the Orange-Chatham .Justice Partnership (OCJP) <br />Leadership Council. <br />BACKGROUND: The Orange-Chatham Justice Partnership Leadership Council serves as the <br />official .Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (.1CPC) and Criminal .lustice Partnership Program <br />(CJPP) Advisory Board as required by the NC Department of Juvenile Justice/Delinquency <br />Prevention and the NC Department of Correction, Each county government is required to have <br />a local JCPC and CJPP advisory board in order to receive state program funds, Since Orange <br />and Chatham Counties share the same judicial district (15-B) and mental health service area, <br />they have operated as amulti-county board since the passing of each legislation. <br />The OC,JP, previously a 50+ member board, has modified its administrative structure by <br />establishing a Leadership Council. The Leadership Council is responsible for the overall <br />administration of the OCJP and for ensuring that the statutory mandates of bath the CJPP and <br />.1CPC are achieved, Responsibilities are met through the work and recommendations from the <br />various Advisory Committees, <br />The Leadership Council is also charged with evaluating the progress of the OCJP and to make <br />recommendations as to its direction, The Council serves as a forum in which agency directors <br />share information about system reform within their respective agencies - a broader perspective <br />of what is happening with the children and families in our communities and what we as leaders <br />of this community can do to shape the outcome. To that end, the Leadership Council seeks to <br />identify problems, solutions and trends (either nationally or statewide) that may impact our <br />communities and our ability to address them. <br />Counties are mandated to have membership (to the greatest extent possible) which includes <br />representation from bath Orange and Chatham Counties including: County Commissioners, <br />District Court Judge, County Management, Health Directors, Chief Court Counselor, Judicial <br />
