ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: February 21, 2006 <br />Action Age~a <br />Item No. I~ <br />SUBJECT: Final Report from the Human Services Advisory Commission on Forum 2005: <br />"Welcome Home - A Bold Proposal to End Homelessness" <br />DEPARTMENT: Manager's Office PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Linda Tuday & Pat Vandiviere, <br />HASC Co-Chairs <br />Gwen Harvey, Assistant County <br />Manager, 245-2307 <br />PURPOSE: To present to the BOCC the final report produced by the Human Services Advisory <br />Commission (HSAC) on the proceedings of its Human Services Issues Fon~m 2005: "Welcome <br />Home - A Bold Proposal to End Homelessness". <br />BACKGROUND: HSAC is responsible for making recommendations to the BOCC on issues <br />concerning human services programs. Its membership consists of representatives from a wide <br />array of county agencies and community partners. Each fall HSAC hosts an issues forum that <br />brings administrators, advocates, consumers, and educators together to discuss human service <br />needs facing the county, The forum held an September 14, 2005 at the United Church of <br />Chapel Hill attracted over 200 participants who examined through guest speeches, <br />presentations, and audience participation how the greater community through the Orange <br />County Partnership to End Homelessness can join to create a plan to end homelessness within <br />the County over the next decade, <br />The final report to the BOCC on Forum 2005 takes the unique form of a one-hour DVD <br />especially edited to capture the event highlights and serve as a public outreach and <br />education tool. (NOTE: The DVD will not be shown at the BOCC meeting; BOCC <br />members will each receive their own souvenir DVD copy.) <br />In presenting the final report to the BOCC, the members of HSAC request that the BOCC <br />maintain its high level of interest and involvement in the goal to end homelessness in Orange <br />County by 2015, and consider applying its full arsenal of affordable housing resources to foster <br />the implementation of community oriented solutions as they emerge, <br />
