ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: February 21, 2006 <br />Action Agen a <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Resolution To Recognize 75 Years of Service by the Chapel Hill Garden Club <br />DEPARTMENT: BOCC <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Yes -Resolution <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Donna Baker, ext 2130 <br />Gretchen "Gus" St, Jahn -President <br />PURPOSE: To consider a resolution recognizing the Chapel Hill Garden Club for 75 years of <br />service to Chapel Hill and the surrounding community. <br />BACKGROUND: Since the early 1930's, the Chapel Hill Garden Club has played an active role <br />in improving the natural beauty of Orange County, Throughout its 75-year history, the Chapel <br />Hill Garden Club's talented members have devoted themselves to learning all they could about <br />gardening and have used that knowledge for the betterment of the community. From Victory <br />Gardens during World War II to public gardens today, from garden education at area schools to <br />garden therapy at rehabilitation centers, from preservation of open space to plant rescue at <br />development sites, the Chapel Hill Garden Club has been an integral part of the social fabric of <br />the community, <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: NONE <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached <br />resolution recognizing the 75 years of service by the Chapel Hill Garden Club and authorize the <br />Chair to sign. <br />
