<br /> PURPOSE: To consider a petition submitted by citizens living near and using US 1.0 BuSiness.

<br /> NEED: Due to weathei conditions during the year and the extent of use of US 70 Business,
<br /> the road is in need of maintenance attention.
<br /> A-petition has been submitted requesting that repair, widening and resurfacing
<br /> work be done'On US 70 Business-as soon as possible.
<br /> . I .
<br /> Mike Mills, Highway Maintenance Engineer (DOT). for Orange County, is responsible
<br /> for compilingla resurfacing needs list for primary, urban and secondary roads in
<br /> Orange CountyL: Mills has recently completed the list and will be submitting it to
<br /> the Graham office which will, folloWing review and approval, send the list to
<br /> the Greensbor4 office for allocation of funds. Mills is responsible for the
<br /> secondary roads on the list as funding for these roads is already aVailable.
<br /> However, funding for primary and urban roads is determined by the Greensboro
<br /> office and i4 allocated on a competitive priority basis.
<br /> Mills indicat d that US 70 Business is the #1 priority primary road resurfacing
<br /> need on his 1 st.
<br /> Mills further indicated that any indication of public support for this matter ,.
<br /> would contriblte to the favorable review of the project for funding.
<br /> INTACT: Endorsement o the petition.by the Board would augment the recommendation made
<br /> by Orange Co ty's Highway Maintenance Engineer and improve the priority standing
<br /> of the road fOr funding.
<br /> Should-the road be approved for funding it is unlikely that construction will
<br /> begin:before the spring paving schedule given the lateness in the current fall
<br /> construction flrogram and damage which may occur during the winter months.
<br /> : COMMENDATION: The Plannin Staff recommends endorsement of the petition.
