The Plan was adopted with the knagledge and understanding that it 14as not a final doctraent, never to be changed, but one which would be subjeet to an on-going process of refinement. As part of the refinement process Was intended that certain areas, particularly activity nodes, in the County be subject to further scrutiny and refinement by the Planning Staff an Planning Board as area studies. A number of area studies were incl .-d In the naming Department's work program, including an area study of the I-85/US7(i corridor west of Ilillborough. The area study is'more counnnly known as the, West Orange Area 'Study and includes portions of Cheeks, Iiillsbariugh, Bingham and Chapel Hill Townships. The Planning,Departinent has been conducting the area study since September , 983 which included the preparation of base maps and compilation of data on soils, topograph*',,land use, hydrology etc.; cenducti'ng'.a series of public teetings, as well as township advi,sory council teetings; and the development of a propo•al to amend frhe adopted Land Use Plan for this area which takes into account the ' desire for industrial develapmnt along the corridor as well as the need for protection of the nnst critical areas of the watershed. *PACT: The consideration and adoption of a proposed alternative to the adopted Land Use Ilan Would substantially address previous concerns expressed by residents:of'and proPerty-owners in the study area.
