Box 640 Hillsborough, NC 27278 Dear Richard:I In accorLiance with NC GS 122-35.39(c) , this is to request that an Orange County citizen, who is licensed to practice medicine in N.C. be appointed to the Orange-Person-Chatham Mental Health Center Area Board. As you Onow, at present, we only have one licensed physician serving on the Area Board and NC GS 122-35.39(b) requires two such members. If this 'request could please be expedited, we would greatly appreciate it since we will be having a site visit to review Standards, by the N.C. Division of Mental Health on November Sand 4, 1983 and unless we have two licensed 'physicians on our Board, we wi 1 I be out-of-compliance and subject to the imposition of penalties. We respectfully suggest Dr. David R. Clemmons , Associate Professor of Medicine, School of Medicine, UNC, as a possible candidate for appointment. Dr. Clemmons comes highly recommended and besides being involved in clinicial practice also is quite involved in medical research in the Department of Medicine. He has been a resident of Orange County for some years and is very actively involved in a number of community activities. As you <now, our Board has lacked an appropriate scope or breadth of knowledge in the area of research and if Dr. Clemmons were appointed, we feel Dr. Clemmons could provide this. Dr. Clemons has expressed an interest in serving on the Board should he be so designated by the Commissioners. If Dr. Clemmons were appointed as an OPC Board member, his length of appointment would be for four years. Sincerely, a .0/ Or William F.
