Levine,140Fne.P.H. <br /> State Health Dire <br /> RE: New Statutory Provisions Concerning the Appointment <br /> of Members to the County Boards of Health <br /> I am writing concerning a change in the North Carolina Public Health Law <br /> that affects the appointment of members to county boards of health. <br /> Present law, G.S. 130-13(c) , provides that a county board of health shall <br /> consist of nine members, including one physician, one dentist, one pharmacist, <br /> one county Commissioner, and five public members. Ratified Senate Bill 141 <br /> of the 1983 liSession of the North Carolina General Assembly, effective <br /> January 1, 1984, increases the membership from nine to eleven by adding <br /> one optometrist, one veterinarian, and one registered nurse, and by reducing <br /> the number of public members from five to four. (G.S. 130A-35) <br /> Section 14, page 124 of Ratified Senate Bill 141 establishes the procedure <br /> for making the change in membership of the county board of health. That <br /> section requires the county board of commissioners to appoint a veterinarian <br /> member and an optometrist member to the county board of health, to assume <br /> office on January 1, 1984.
