ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT <br /> HILLSBOROUGH <br /> NORTH CAROLINA. <br /> 27278 <br /> to/4 fugo‘ <br /> COMMENTS RECEIVED AT THE JOINT MEETING OF THE <br /> TOWN OF HILLSBOROUGH PLANNING BOARD/TOWN BOARD <br /> OCTOBER 25, 1983 ON THE HARMON YOUNG AREA STUDY <br /> On October 25, 1983, the Orange County Planning Department Staff presented <br /> the Harmon Young Area Study to the Planning Board and Town Board of the Town of <br /> Hillsborough. Interested citizens were also in attendance at the meeting. A <br /> number of concerns about the study were expressed by members of the Boards and <br /> the general public. A representative selection of the comments and concerns <br /> of those present include the following: <br /> o The study does not reflect the Town of Hillsborough as an <br /> historic area worthy of special planning txeatment <br /> o The !study area does not adequately address the need to <br /> preserve and protect the entranceways into the Town. <br /> o The costs and disadvantages of commercialization and <br /> industrialization south of Hillsborough, including the <br /> inpAct on the residential quality of the area's services <br /> andlarea's natural resources, are not adequately recognized. <br /> o The Town is especially concerned about the implications of <br /> the study for public sewer and water services and demands <br /> on the Town's water supply and systems' capacity. <br /> o where was g cOncensus that the ,County not <br /> adopt the area study until the above concerns have been <br /> ad4essed in the proposed Plan- <br /> The <br /> e4& <br /> to have these comments entered into the re( <br /> of the discussion of the Harmon Young Area Study for the Board of Commissioners' <br /> considerationlof approval. <br />
