After discussing this with
Chairman Max Kennedy, I discussed the question with all members of the Orange
County Board of Education. Three of the members indicated that they would
prefer that the Commissioners proceed with enactment of the sales tax through
the public hearirlg process. However, if that is not acceptable to the Commission,
then those three members agree with the balance of the Board and endorse a
referendum on the enactment of the tax. More than one Board Member commented
that they would like for it to be considered by the public as soon as possible.
However, whe lin asked if they preferred the vote at the November election
as compared to a special election, all Board Members endorsed the idea of in-
cluding this on lie ballot at the November election this fall. Mr. Kennedy
asked that I communicate the results of my discussions to you so that you could
communicate this information to the Commissioners for their consideration at
the earliest time possible.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter as we work together for
the improvement of school facilities in the county.
Sincerely,
/111
G.
