_ <br /> A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING ENACTMENT OF THE ONE-HALF CENT LOCAL <br /> OPTION SALES TAX IN ORANGE COUNTY (83-R-133.2) <br /> WHEREAS, the NI.C. General Assembly in its 1983 Session authorized the <br /> enactment of an additional one-half cent sales tax on a local option <br /> basis in each County; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town of Chapel Hill has projected funding needs for future <br /> budget years; and <br /> WHEREAS, the on -half cent sales tax would apply to all residents; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel <br /> Hill that the Council encourages the Orange County Board of Commis- <br /> sioners to call a Public Hearing to determine community sentiment on this <br /> matter at the earliest appropriate time, in their judgment. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council finds the enactment of the <br /> one-half cent local option sales tax in the best interest of the people of <br /> Chapel Hill and Orange County and urges its enactment at the earliest <br /> appropriate time, their judgment. <br /> This the 12th day of September, 1983. <br /> I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of the resol •'on ado ited by <br /> the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill on the / day of ,- <br /> 1983. --- <br /> / <br /> -1( .45 _th <br /> 134,:fr• a P. erry, Deputy oii0 lerk <br />
