3 <br /> Chair Dorosin accepted the award on behalf of the BOCC. <br /> b. 2017 Piedmont Laureate Mimi Herman Presentation for National Poetry Month <br /> The Board considered recognizing National Poetry Month with a presentation by the <br /> 2017 Piedmont Laureate, poet Mimi Herman. <br /> Tim Hoke, Arts Commission Board Chair, introduced Piedmont Laureate Mimi Herman, <br /> who read a few poems. <br /> c. Proclamation Recognizing the Annual Community Dinner <br /> The Board considered a proclamation recognizing the Annual Community Dinner for <br /> support of community ideals and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> Nerys Levy thanked the BOCC for its support over the last 20 years, and said during <br /> this time the dinner has fed over 14,000 people. She said the goal of the dinner is to celebrate <br /> the diverse cultures in Orange County, and it will be held on April 30, 2017. <br /> Commissioner Price read the proclamation: <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING THE <br /> ANNUAL COMMUNITY DINNER <br /> WHEREAS, the Annual Community Dinner is an event to build community spirit, crossing <br /> economic, racial, religious and ethnic barriers; and <br /> WHEREAS, the attendees sit side-by-side to experience and enjoy culturally diverse food and <br /> entertainment from the local community; and <br /> WHEREAS, this is the 20th Annual Community Dinner co-chaired by Mildred Council (Mama <br /> Dip) and Nerys Levy, coordinated with a diverse Community Dinner <br /> Committee; and <br /> WHEREAS, the first fiscal agent was Preservation Chapel Hill and for the past 10-years the <br /> event has been held with the support of the Orange County Department of <br /> Housing, Human Rights and Community Development; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Community Dinner received national recognition in 2014 as a winner of a <br /> National League of Cities Award for Cultural Diversity, as nominated by the <br /> Town of Carrboro; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners does <br /> hereby recognize the Community Dinner as an exemplary display of <br /> community ideals and a highly appreciated asset for the residents of Orange <br /> County. <br /> This the 4th day of April 2017. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner McKee for <br /> the Board to approve the Proclamation Recognizing the Annual Community Dinner and <br /> authorized the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />
