Since there is
no requirement that private airports be developed to meet FAA
standards, we would not want our comments to have an adverse affect &I'l
on the developm* of a private airport. The FAA standards are, of
course, available for reference if a private developer desires to
his facility to TnePt appropriate standards. The only
requirement FAALhas regarding privately owned airports is that a
Notice of Proposed Construction be filed with the FAA. This has
been acemplished by the proponent. The result of the airspace .,
determination isl shown on the enclosed letter of December 11, 1980.
' Af'
The recently plahned 1400-foot extension for a total of 5000 feet
. ,..
received a similar airport determdnation.
The use of FAA design standards is required when the airport is ,
being constructed with federal aid. Simi1nrly, if an airport is
constructed withlprivate funds and future plans include converting it
,
r
to a publicly-owned facility, with the intent of obtaining future
federal aid, it would be desirable to plan and construct it in
Fi
accordance with PM standards. If a proponent should ask our
recommendations for development of a privately owned airport, we
would recommend that the FAA standards be utilized.
,.. -
1
Our comments on the plan are as follows:
1, We agree with comments made by Mr. Bruce Matthews of the State
of North Carolina,. in his letter of January 26, 1982. We would
I L
recommend that current standards for runway separation, etc. , be Itti
, --,
applied if possible,
0
. .
2. The report indicates FAA approved of the development, however,
this only relates to airspace affects as shown in enclosed letter,
-. -„.-..
