REMARKS OF BLAND SIMPSON NEARING <br /> JOINT PLANNING BOARD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PUBLIC ^ . <br /> ON MIDWAYIAIRPORT SPECIAL USE PERMIT MODIFICATION REQUESTS <br /> HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA MAY 23d, 1983 <br /> My name is Bland Simpson. My wife and I live on <br /> Morrow Mill Road in Bingham Township. We are here tonight asking <br /> that OrangeCounty maintain the conditions placed on the special <br /> I • <br /> use permit granted the developers of the proposed Midway Airport <br /> last fall, and that Orange County maintain strict limits on the <br /> 1 • <br /> airport's levlel of commercial activity. <br /> For two and a half years, the burden of proof in <br /> , <br /> the matter of this airport has been on the people of Bingham, who <br /> are virtually; to a man, woman and child opposed to it. Yet it <br /> I " <br /> fell to us , and we relied as best we could on the Land Use Plan <br /> I . <br /> and the new Zoning Law to show why there should not be a major <br /> commercial development, a major airport, in the heart of the <br /> dairyland. I <br /> 1 <br /> 1 The permit was granted, admittedly to our dismay. <br /> But, when you made a host of detailed, well-.drafted, intelligent <br /> conditions part and parcel of that permit, you commissioners in <br /> your collective wisdom did those of us in Bingham a great service: <br /> you sought tip control the size and impact of Midway, to make it a <br /> i <br /> manageable neighbor for us. We accepted the judgment of the Board, <br /> and the Bucki Mountain Developers accepted their permit. <br /> 1 Now, then, they have prayed over those conditions <br /> I . <br /> and decided Iafter some months which ones they can live with and <br /> which ones they cannot; and they are here tonight chipping away <br /> and wearingdown. They are seeking to do away with four conditions <br /> and to establish their own agenda on what commercial activity is to <br /> 1 <br /> be at Midwa '. <br /> ..1.,. <br />
