1
County Commissioners
County CourthOuse
Hillsborough, N,C
March 28, 1983
Dear County Commissioners,
!
I am writing to express my concern over the developments
maneuvered by Mr Hazard in his pursuit of his Midway Airport.
I was shocked to learn that this Public Hearing was scheduled in
ofder to allowiMr Hazard to pursue major changes in the special
use permit he was granted, changes which should by all reasonable
standards be resubmitted in the form of a new special use permit.
Although I am dismayed by the Buck Mountain group maneuvers,
I am especially concerned by their request to remove the flight
training operations limit. I urge you not to back off this
restriction. If you do it will cause serious damage and financial
loss to this community.
If there! are no limits to such flights, anyone can buzz this
neighborhood with their aircraft, this results in new hazards,
safety problems; and a major nuisance factor. Land values for
rural residential living will be eroded, because they are based on
the desire for quiet country living, I have been trying to sell
some residential farm land here during the past year, and have
lost several sates when the buyers learned how near the proposed
airport would be.
Unrestricted training flights would destroy the quiet factor,
an important reason many of us settled here. It would decrease our
land values for residential living where we could not hope to salvage
our investments, I am requesting that you maintain the training
flight restrictions, and not take on the responsibility for bringing
such financial losses to Bingham Township.
_ Sincerely yours,
Eric Schop r
Rt 1 Box 182B
Old Morrow Mill Road
Chapel Hill, N.C, 27514
