ORANGE cnurriz 00
BOARD OF anassioNEBs Action Agenda
AC:riON AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Item No Eli
METING DATEMIL1721983
Subject: Cable Television Extension Requests
i. partt: Manalers Office I Public Hearing: yes X no
Attachment(s) : Information Contact:
Manager's Office
-- --- -- ---- Phone Number: 732-8181 ext. 500
PURPCSE: To consider a Board requested report as to the eligibility of Robinswood,
Rangewood, IStoneybrook and Councilville to receive an extension of cable
television service.
NEED: At its Regylar Meeting of April 19, 1983 the Board took up the question of
whether the communities of Rangewood, Robinswood, Stoneybrook and Councilville
could be served under the current franchise with Village Cable, Inc.
Due to a disparity in figures as to the density of homes in these communities
and uncertainty as to the industry standard for computing the density of homes,
the Board asked the Manager to verify and reconcile the figures.
Three factors had to be resolved--the industry standard for calculating
distances, ; the distance within the communities that would have to be
traversed in extending cable according to the industry standard, and the
,mumber of homes within the communities.
First, as to industry standard, it was determined (by contacting neighboring
jurisdictibns and the Cable Television Information Council in Washington, D. C. )
that the accepted basis is to use the total distance of aerial (plant) miles
and miles of underground cable rather than road miles.
Secondly, line distance was measured--both aerial and underground--and found
to be: k 54 route)
Ul
10. 7 miles--spanning the four communities
7.96 miles--spanning Robinswood, Rangewood and Councilville
but leaving out Stoneybrook
Thirdly, cbunt of homes was accomplished by conducting a computer sort of
all homes (single family, multifamily, and mobile home) within the communities
as. recorded on the official tax records and maps. The number was found to be:
273 homes within the four communities
251 homes within Robinswood Rangewood and Councilville,
but excluding Stanevbroak
