Year-To-Date Budget <br /> Summary <br /> PURPOSE: To approve budget ordinance amendments for fiscal year 2016-17. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Department of Economic Development <br /> 1. Visitors Bureau: The Visitors Bureau is leading a partnership with the towns of <br /> Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough, Visit NC, and the Tryon Equestrian Center to <br /> showcase the best of Orange County to the North American Travel Journalist <br /> Association (NATJA). The NATJA is one of the largest professional associations of <br /> travel writers, photographers, editors, bloggers and tourism professionals, with 70-100 <br /> travel journalists expected to be hosted by Orange County for the Association's <br /> conference. The conference dates are May 16-19, 2017. The Visitors Bureau has <br /> received sponsorships from towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough, Visit <br /> NC, and the Tryon Equestrian Center totaling $17,250. Funds will be used to provide <br /> transportation, food, and a portion of lodging for participants on a tour of Orange <br /> County. <br /> This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these additional funds in FY 2016-17. <br /> (See Attachment 1, column 1) <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is <br /> applicable to this agenda item: <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding <br /> necessary for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for <br /> themselves and their dependents. <br />
