5 <br /> 1 This the 4th day of April, 2017. <br /> 2 <br /> 3 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Price for the <br /> 4 Board to approve the proclamation designating April as "Sexual Assault Awareness Month" in <br /> 5 Orange County and authorized the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 8 <br /> 9 e. Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation <br /> 10 The Board considered a proclamation recognizing April 2017 as Child Abuse Prevention <br /> 11 Month and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 12 Prevent Child Abuse - North Carolina's President and CEO Sharon Hirsch represented <br /> 13 this organization, and accepted the proclamation on its behalf. <br /> 14 Commissioner McKee read the proclamation: <br /> 15 <br /> 16 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 17 <br /> 18 PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING APRIL 2017 AS <br /> 19 CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH <br /> 20 <br /> 21 WHEREAS, children are vital to our state's future success, prosperity and quality of life as well <br /> 22 as being our most vulnerable assets; and <br /> 23 <br /> 24 WHEREAS, all children deserve to have the safe, stable, nurturing homes and communities <br /> 25 they need to foster their healthy growth and development; and <br /> 26 <br /> 27 WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a community responsibility affecting both the current <br /> 28 and future quality of life of a community; and <br /> 29 <br /> 30 WHEREAS, communities that provide parents with the social support, knowledge of parenting <br /> 31 and child development and concrete resources they need to cope with stress <br /> 32 and nurture their children ensure all children grow to their full potential; and <br /> 33 <br /> 34 WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention strategies succeed because of partnerships <br /> 35 created among residents, human service agencies, schools, faith communities, <br /> 36 health care providers, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the <br /> 37 business community; <br /> 38 <br /> 39 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim <br /> 40 April 2017 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Orange County, North Carolina <br /> 41 and call upon all residents, community agencies, faith groups, medical <br /> 42 facilities, elected leaders and businesses to increase their participation in <br /> 43 efforts to support families, thereby preventing child abuse and strengthening <br /> 44 the communities in which we live. <br /> 45 <br /> 46 This the 4th day of April 2017. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Price for the <br /> 49 Board to approve the Proclamation Recognizing April 2017 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in <br /> 50 Orange County and authorized the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />
