3 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 b. 2017 Piedmont Laureate Mimi Herman Presentation for National Poetry Month <br /> 3 The Board considered recognizing National Poetry Month with a presentation by the <br /> 4 2017 Piedmont Laureate, poet Mimi Herman. <br /> 5 Tim Hoke, Arts Commission Board Chair, introduced Piedmont Laureate Mimi Herman, <br /> 6 who read a few poems. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 c. Proclamation Recognizing the Annual Community Dinner <br /> 9 The Board considered a proclamation recognizing the Annual Community Dinner for <br /> 10 support of community ideals and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 11 Nerys Levy thanked the BOCC for its support over the last 20 years, and said during this <br /> 12 time the dinner has fed over 14,000 people. She said the goal of the dinner is to celebrate the <br /> 13 diverse cultures in Orange County, and it will be held on April 30, 2017. <br /> 14 Commissioner Price read the proclamation: <br /> 15 <br /> 16 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 17 PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING THE <br /> 18 ANNUAL COMMUNITY DINNER <br /> 19 <br /> 20 WHEREAS, the Annual Community Dinner is an event to build community spirit, crossing <br /> 21 economic, racial, religious and ethnic barriers; and <br /> 22 <br /> 23 WHEREAS, the attendees sit side-by-side to experience and enjoy culturally diverse food and <br /> 24 entertainment from the local community; and <br /> 25 <br /> 26 WHEREAS, this is the 20th Annual Community Dinner co-chaired by Mildred Council (Mama <br /> 27 Dip) and Nerys Levy, coordinated with a diverse Community Dinner <br /> 28 Committee; and <br /> 29 <br /> 30 WHEREAS, the first fiscal agent was Preservation Chapel Hill and for the past 10-years the <br /> 31 event has been held with the support of the Orange County Department of <br /> 32 Housing, Human Rights and Community Development; and <br /> 33 <br /> 34 WHEREAS, the Community Dinner received national recognition in 2014 as a winner of a <br /> 35 National League of Cities Award for Cultural Diversity, as nominated by the <br /> 36 Town of Carrboro; <br /> 37 <br /> 38 NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners does <br /> 39 hereby recognize the Community Dinner as an exemplary display of <br /> 40 community ideals and a highly appreciated asset for the residents of Orange <br /> 41 County. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 This the 4th day of April 2017. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner McKee for <br /> 46 the Board to approve the Proclamation Recognizing the Annual Community Dinner and <br /> 47 authorized the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 48 <br /> 49 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 50 <br />
