Since 1980 a new index by property inden- <br /> tification number has been under development. In December 1982, the <br /> Department of Administration certified that the new index met the require- <br /> mets of Sate law <br /> Julyt1, 1983,aunlessrab local lact en viinghup recognize <br /> thedatadwerelapproved, <br /> The Register of Deeds desires to have an earlier approval date since the <br /> index is ready and since a cost saving could result, Currently, it takes <br /> 3,5 boxes of parer or S77 per month and 18 hours of computer time for the <br /> multiple printing of the alphabetic index. This could be discontinued <br /> once the computer is utilized for retrival. <br /> Representatives Anne C, Barnes and Joe Hackney are willing to carry a local <br /> act through the process for approval if the Board makes known its request <br /> for action. Authority to utilize the PIN index could become effective as <br /> of February 1, 1983, given this go ahead. <br /> Orange County's index would be the first of its kind in the State to receive <br /> official status. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): <br /> Approve request for local legislation. <br />
