Abstract <br /> The purpose of this demonstration is to evaluate the efficacy and <br /> cost-effectiveness of two models of parent education for families reported <br /> for child abtise or neglect. After obtaining informed consent, the <br /> Child Protecdive Services unit of Orange County (N.Ci), Department of Social <br /> Services wil1 randomly allocate participants to three groups. Two groups <br /> will corresp ad to the two parent education models. The first will add a daycare <br /> training com onent to the standard services which would otherwise be provided. <br /> In addition to regular day care, the child and his parent will come in groups <br /> of 7 or 8 pairs to the daycare center on 10 consecutive Saturday mornings - <br /> where spec/011y trained daycare teachers will, using modeling and role-playing, <br /> provide instruction to parents in parenting skills. The second model also <br /> builds on th package of standard- services including regular day care, but <br /> adds a volunteer parent aide component. 'Volunteers from churches and voluntary <br /> agencies be trained to provide abusing familiei four hours of parent <br /> training a week for 10 weeks. The third grow, will receive all the standard <br /> services plu regular day care but no special parent education component. <br /> The outcomes will be evaluated comparing not only costs but observed changes <br /> in parenting 1skilla and improvement in a pencil and paper parenting knowledge <br /> questionnairz. <br /> • <br /> • <br /> • <br /> • <br /> . . <br />
