The property is owned <br /> by Orange County and managed by DEAPR(Orange County PIN 9874066106). <br /> The proposed work is to conduct remote-sensing investigations across the entire 0.72-acre property.The <br /> remote sensing work will be subcontracted to New South Associates.Their scope of work and cost <br /> estimate is attached as Appendix A. <br /> The results of the remote sensing will be interpreted to assist with identifying the location of earlier <br /> structures and possibly historic activity areas on the courthouse square.This information will be reviewed <br /> to identify areas that(1) would be suitable for subsurface investigations (systematic probing and/or <br /> excavation)to ground-truth the remote-sensing results and (2)would be recommended for <br /> archaeological clearance and/or monitoring during the installation of new underground foundation drains <br /> and utility lines.These high-probability areas will be prioritized based on the following parameters. <br /> 1) Correlation with information of historic maps (ca. 1768 Sauthier Plan of the Town of <br /> Hillsborough, NC and ca. 1888-1911 Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps of Hillsboro, NC)that <br /> identify the location of former structures and activity areas on Lot 1 <br /> 2) Intensity and horizontal extent of the remote-sensing reflections <br /> Project tasks will include the following. <br /> • Overall Project Management <br /> • Oversee the Remote Sensing Investigations <br /> • Review Remote Sensing Results <br /> • Identify High-Probability Areas <br /> • Recommend areas that would be suitable for future subsurface investigations in the interest of <br /> getting a better understanding of the historical land use/occupation and determining site <br /> integrity <br /> • Identify areas that would require archaeological investigations and/or monitoring if selected for <br /> the installation of new underground foundation drains or utility lines <br /> Page 1 of 6 <br />
