It states that ''nmrej than nne <br /> mem <br /> br <br /> e of an immediate family will not be employed at the same time if such <br /> employment his immediate family," While the provision would result in an employee directly or indirectly superv`��no a <br /> member visinn does not totally pre- <br /> clude the hiring of family members within a department, County personne <br /> practice has been to discourage such practice. Therefore the Manager dis- <br /> approved the hiring request. <br /> In accordance with General Statute l53A-103 a Sheriff has an appeal right to <br /> the Board of Commissioners which he is exercising by this request. The Statute <br /> states: Each Sheriff and Register of Deeds elected by the people has <br /> the exclusive right to hire, discharge, and sumervise the <br /> employees in his office. However, the Board of Commissioners <br /> must approve the appointment by such an officer of a relative <br /> Y <br /> b blood or marriage of nearer kinship than first cousin or of a person who has been convicted of a crime involving moral <br /> turpitude. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> As the Board decides. <br />
