041 <br /> M E M O R A N D U M <br /> To: Mr. Ken Thompson <br /> From: Lindy Pendergrass <br /> Re: Purchase of used NC Highway Patrol Cars <br /> Date: December 8, 1982 <br /> Mr. Thompson, per our conversation on purchasing: used patrol <br /> cars, I have checked the following procedures out on purchase. <br /> Orange County Sheriff's Department can purchase used patrol cars <br /> with no difficulty. The purchase price and condition of cars are <br /> as follows: <br /> 1. Used 1979 Chevrolet 4 dr. Impala police package cars with <br /> 65,000 miles $2,500.00 per car. <br /> 2. Used 1979 Chevrolet 4 dr. Impala with 60,000 miles to <br /> 65,000 are $3,000.00 per car. <br /> Mr. O'Neal has four cars with 61,000 miles to 62,500 that we <br /> can purchase. I personally looked at the maintenance sheets and <br /> looked at the cars and find them in good condition. <br /> Proposal: <br /> 1. These vehicles would be used by myself, Major Truelove and <br /> our investigators (the former Sheriff's car is now on <br /> patrol used by our supervisors) . <br /> 2. The two 1981 Plymouth patrol cars used presently by our <br /> investigators would be put on patrol. The two 81 Plymouths <br /> have 55,237.0 to 63,929.6 miles each and are in good condi- <br /> tion. <br /> 3. We would take four of our 1977 Fords in poor condition off <br /> the line and hopefully sell them as soon as possible at the <br /> auction to recoup part of the cost of the purchase of the <br /> used patrol cars. <br /> We will also take off the line three other vehicles that will <br /> not be used by our department. Keeping these three would cost the <br /> county far more than their use under any circumstances would warrant. <br />
