They shall be eligible to succeed them- selves for not more than three consecutive terms. 4) Vacancies in the office shall be filled immediately for the unexpired term by the regular election procedure. ARTICLE III - MEMBERS A. MEMBERSHIP Vembership on the Planning Board shall be governed by the terms of Chanter 153 of the General Statutes of North Carolina and the Orange Courty Zoning Ordinance. B. A.TIENDANCE 1) Any member of the Board Wno miss more than three consecutive meeting (monthly meeting on the third Monday) or public hearirgs or who miss more than one-half of the meetings in a calendar year, for something other than ar approved absence as deter- mined by the Chair, nay lose their status as member of the Board and may b replaced by the Board of (: - of Commissioners. 2) Absence due to sickness, death of an immediate family member, professional ',.eave, or other valid reason shall be considered approved absence and shall not affect the member's status. 3) In the event of a fang illness or other cause for prolonged absence, the member may be replaced. ARTICLE IV - AMINISTRATION A. The Orange County Planning Departrent shall serve as staff to the Planning Board. B. The expenditures of the Board, exclusive of gifts shall be within the amounts appropriated for that purpose by the Qrange County Board of Commissioners. C. The Planning Director may serve as Secretary to the Planning Board, However, if the Board desires, a Secretary may be appointed by the Chair of ,, the Board, either from within or outside its membership, upon approval by the Planning Board: The Secretary shall hold office during the term of the (, Chair and until a successor secretary shall have been appointed.
