Three programs were singled out as highly effective: 1) Fun Fair; <br /> 2) Career Exploration; and, 3) Expanded Food and Nutrition Program. <br /> ` <br /> Following a short break the Board continued to receive reports with all <br /> members present as noted at the beginning of these Minutes. <br /> HOME ECONOMICS: <br /> Ms. Fonrose Gore, gerontology, skills development and resource mana <br /> specialist, presented a slide show on past programs and planned programs in <br /> those areas. <br /> Ms, Bonnie Davis, nutritionist, presented her portion of the program and <br /> said her efforts were directed tdwards "enhapoihg the quality of life in Orange <br /> County," She said urgent problem areas had been identified by the Home Economics <br /> Special Committee and the County Needs Assessment Study, She cited three <br /> areas: 1) Food, nutrition, health; 2) Housing/furnishing; and, 3) Human <br /> development, Ms. Davis emphasized inter-agency coordination and cooperation <br /> in dissemination of these programs through the delivery systems of the home <br /> economics division of Agriculture Extension. <br /> ADVISORY COUNCIL REPORT: <br /> Messrs. Corbett and Mazza and Ms. brain presented highlights of a two day <br /> leadership conference they had attended March 4-5, I982, in Raleigh. They <br /> each emphasized programs which had impressed them most. Mr. Corbett focused <br /> on the planning and field trips to laboratories; Dr. Mazza focused on 4-H con- <br /> cerns; while Ms. Torain detailed tours, panels and planning for the 80's' <br /> Commissioner Willhoit, during the question and answer session, asked Ms. <br /> Davis about agency coordination and possible duplication of target populations. <br /> Ms. Davis said they taught nutrition to the seniors at the Centers for JOCCA; <br /> they aided the Health department in working with young mothers in nutrition and <br /> the same for the Department of Social Services. Spe added that both Departments <br /> made referrals to her and Ms. Gore; they are able to provide programs that other <br /> agencys cannot. <br /> Mr. Corbett thanked everyone for coming and for the excellent staff present- <br /> ations.
