58 6 <br /> g �_` <br /> � <br /> MINUTES <br /> SEPTEMBER 27, 1982 <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on <br /> Monday, September 27, 1982, at 7`3O P.M. in the Superior Courtroom, Orange <br /> County Courthouse, Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> Commissioners present: Chairman Richard E. Whitted, and Commissioners <br /> , Norman Guotavesnn, Shirley E. Marshall, Norman Walker and Don Nillhoit, <br /> Chairman Whitted said the Board would hold the Joint Public Hearing <br /> with the Orange County Planning Board prior to the other items|on the agenda. <br /> Orange County Planning Board Members present: Pat Crawford, Chair, and <br /> Tom Bacon, Sally Boericke, Logan Irvin, John Kizer, Sharlene Pilkey, David Shanklin, <br /> Carl Walters and John Wilson. <br /> According to procedure, Ms. Crawford chaired the joint public hearing. <br /> I. Proposed Amendments to the Adopted Land Use Plan for Cheeks Township <br /> Mr. Fred Luce, Planning Staff, presented the proposed amendments to the Land <br /> Use Plan for Cheeks Township (details are on page .3~90 of this book). <br /> Planning Board member Irvin asked if Mr. Luce felt this plan provided adequate <br /> protection to the Seven Mile Creek and if any thought had been given to construction <br /> of a berm or a drainage canal to shunt water runoff from the highways (Interstate <br /> 85 and US 70) away from Seven Mile Creek in order to preserve it as a future <br /> reservoir? <br /> Mr. Luce replied that since the original plan was conceived, new information <br /> from the State regarding a possible reservoir at Corporation Lake said such a reservoir <br /> would provide about the same amount of water as a reservoir on Seven Mile Creek. <br /> This would, in turn, provide an additional amount of land for development in the <br /> Seven Mile Creek watershed. He continued that a berm or canal had not been consid- <br /> ered as the problem did not exist. <br /> Mr. Irvin asked if consideration had been given to the concept of an industrial <br /> park for development rather than the "node" concept which would include a general <br /> aviation a:rport. <br /> Mr. Luce said such a concept had not been specifically examined; however, an <br /> industrial park would have to have water and sewer available to it and such ser- <br /> vices don't presently exist. He added that such a park would be located very near <br />
