Margaret Lane <br /> Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278 <br /> Dear Madam Chairman: <br /> I am pleased to advise you that we will again set aside tw. weeks <br /> for a statewide concentrated pick-up litter effort. •- eeks <br /> designated 4s "Clean Up Litter" weeks will be April 9-2., and <br /> September 13-17, 1982. <br /> I <br /> Let me ask 1 that you solicit participation by your local civic <br /> clubs and organizations in this cooperative effort to clean up our . <br /> . , <br /> roadsides in North Carolina. <br /> We will extend the spring campaign through Saturday to accommodate <br /> participation by various youth groups across the State. The <br /> Governor's Office of Youth Involvement is coordinating <br /> participation by youth groups under adult supervision in our <br /> campaign. This is a good opportunity to educate our young people <br /> and focus their attention on littering which costs our State <br /> apiiroxima-te1y-$2-.2 million each year. <br /> I <br /> • We will again furnish a minimum of three pick-up crews in each <br /> county and will provide litter bags, signing, and truck pickup <br /> support for 1 all outside organizations that wish to participate <br /> with us. We will also distribute appropriate bumper stickers, <br /> brochures, Posters and lapel buttons to publicize our campaign. <br /> This effort will be coordinated through our District Engineer's <br /> Office.
