RECEIVED JUL 0 6 19,82
:Oft-j4'
I.;
STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
JAMES B HUNT JR .• P. 0, Box 9278
GOVERNOR Greensboro, N. C. 27308-0278
July 1, 1982 DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS
WILLIAM R ROBERSON JR
SECRETARY
Mt , Kenneth Thompson •
County Manager
County of Orange
106 East Margaret Lane .
Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278
Re: Improvement of Secondary Road 1330, 1331, 1328, 1387, 1389,
1329, 1375, 1388, and 1396 Located in The Northern Fairview
Community near Hillsborough in Orange County
Dear Mr. Thompson:
Mr. Kittrell of your Community Redevelopment Committee has requested that
the Department of Transportation handle any Condemnations on your Northern
Fairview project. Upon reviewing this matter with Mr, John Watkins, Division
Engineer, and our Raleigh Office, it is felt that the following procedure
should be followed:
1 Mr, Kittrell's staff should negotiate all the claims as far
as possible,
2. Once you have all claims settled that are possible, submit
a written request through the County Manager's Office, with
the expressed authority of the County Commissioner, requesting
that the Department of Transportation consider handling these
Condemnations and listing all claims which are to be considered,
along with pertinent dates concerning then. This letter should
indicate that the County will bear all costs and keep and save
the Department of Transportation completely harmless in any
action if same is approved.
3. If the Department of Transportation agrees to this action, it
will be necessary for the Department of Transportation to approve
same and have a Municipal Agreement prepared and executed by all
parties. This should require approximately sixty to ninety days.
