■
,
Page 2
tell us that settlement has stopped. To the contrary he feels that settle-
ment has not stopped and that we will still get some rotation in the wall
eventhough it may be very slight. The abutments, as
stabitizin nd ► you know, are for
gla preventing any additional rotation of the wall. Mr. hood
recommends that if the County wishes not to use the abutments that they
measure thelopening in the wall at this time and monitor it every thirty
days for the next six months. Obviously we do not have six months but
we could nonitor it for the length of time we have. We should indicate
to Security Building Company not built the exterior concrete slab and wall
until the very last so that we may continue to monitor, and if you change
your mind it would be easily placed.
The requested amount for the Chapel Hill gravel does seem very high as you
and I both appreciate. However, in reviewing it this morning with Mr. Setzer
I was in agreement with his per hour and per unit cost and had no way to re-
fute the amount of time or material that he was estimating. It does seem to
me that he is requesting double payment on some items but whether this would
come out to be significant I am not able to say at this time.
Mr. Hood also Indicated that we could use 21 feet of gravel in place of Chapel
Hill gravel 'provided we do tamp to some solid condition. If you are able to
get a conveyor as you say perhaps we would save some money there also. In
your discussions with Mr. Setzer I am sure you will explore all those pos-
sibilities.
corely,
S K
lF
Jose.° L, Nass f Lt
Ar- itect
!
c: Mr. Ken Thompson, Manager
Mr. Richard Whitted, Chair
Orange County Commissioners
