ADOPTED WATERSBED ZONING AMIMIRITS Revised Dec. 1, 1981 <br /> Revised Jan. 18., 1981 <br /> Revised May 6, 1981 <br /> Public Hearing May 24, 1981 <br /> Adopted June 6, 1.982 <br /> 4.4.46 REsERvED <br /> 4.2.27 Protect ed Watershed II (FW-II) District <br /> a) Intent <br /> It is tIe intent of Orange County to regulate the uses of land and <br /> structures in watersheds which drain to reservoirs supplying drink- <br /> ing water to the people of Orange County. The quality of water in <br /> these tter supply watersheds can be affected by the activities of man <br /> includi g farming, construction of highways and rural subdivisions <br /> and thcJ growth of towns and industrial development. Types of water <br /> polluta4-s resulting From these activities include sediment, bacterial <br /> contaml!nation, heavy metals, synthetic organic compounds and low-level <br /> radioaAi:vity. A task force appointed by the County Commissioners <br /> has studied the problems of water pollution. They have documented <br /> their findings in a report entitled Report of the Or County Water <br /> Resources Task Force and dated May, 1981. That statement of problems <br /> and needs is included by reference. The intent of the Protected Water- <br /> shed IM needs ) district is to apply a set of regulations for watershed <br /> protection to portions of water-supply watersheds in the County which <br /> are presently mostly undeveloped and where it is desireable to maintain <br /> the . undeveloped character of the watershed In the future. <br /> b) Application Criteria <br /> The Protected Watershed II (PIN II) district is established as a district <br /> which overlays other zoning districts established in this ordinance. The <br /> new uselof any land or any new structure within the Protected Watershed <br /> II (Pw_'II) district shall comply with use regulations applicable to the <br /> underly I ing zoning district as well as the requirements of the PW­II dis- <br /> trict. � <br /> 1. This district will be applied to the University Lake and Cane Creek <br /> watersheds designated in the Land Use Plan. <br /> 6.23 SM-M REQUIREMMTS FOR PROTECMD WATER= DISTRICTS <br /> 1 <br /> 6.23.1 Stream Buffers Reguired In Protected Watersheds. <br /> Within the Protected Watershed District, an area of land along perennial <br /> streams shall be required to remain in its natural state, unless the area <br /> is subjrct to serious erosion in which case an erosion resistant vegeta- <br /> tive coyer shall be established and maintained.
