He asked if airports have no adverse affects on health and public safety,
why are those who live near HWA so committed to getting rid of it? 3) He addressed
the issue of decreased land value of property adjacent to the proposed airport, and
cited the example of someone who owns two lots next to his property who is now
hesitating about building there because of the airport. He recommended denial of the request because:
1) it doesn't promote the health, safety or general welfare of the public; 2) it
is in conflict with the Land Use Plan for this Township; and, 3) the economic
unotability of this project; he feels the County will have to bail out in some way
the devolopprs. While he recommends denial, he also suggested two conditions if _
the permit is approved: 1) that no jet will ever be"allowed to land at Midway; and,
2) a bond equivalent to cost plus lO% of the project from the beginning to the
Completion.
Mr. Johnson asked those who were in the courtroom and who were opposed to the
airport project to stand, /Clerk's note: Most of the audience stood)
Ms. Julie Andresen, resident of Chapel Hill and representing Citizens for
Airport Planning: She said the purpose of the group was to seek a solution for
the health and safety problems posed by HHA!s lucbtfun' She that the group has
a broad base of support for its objectives.
