No loading or unloading or storage of fuel can be permitted in
any hanger area.
3. These regulations are to be prominently displayed in the hanger
areas and are to be incorporated into the Airport Operating Manual,
4. In view of the possibility that Midway may come under public
ownership, we strongly suggest that all FAA safety requirements
pertaining to construction and operation that would apply to a
public airport of this size be imposed on Midway.
Access
We continue to suggest that access to Midway via Teer Road would cut our
response time in half. It would also provide us access to a densely wooded
area where take-off and landing crashes may occur.
Communications
We would like to be in close communication with the Midway F.B.O. control
room in the event of a fire call. This can be done by a two-way radio able
to use our frequency. Another possibility would be to work out a procedure
for using the 911 phone link running through Orange Central,
Summary
Our investigation of potential fire fighting hazards at Midway is still going
on. Although we feel that we have covered the most important points in our
comments above, we reserve the right to add to them or amend them as we
become more familiar with providing fire protection to airports.
Orange Grove Volunteer Fire Company is obligated by contract to provide fire
protection to all citizens and property within its district. Midway is no
exception. We are certainly far from enthusiastic about the possibility of
a major airport being located in our territory because it presents fire
fighting problems that are outside the range of our experience. However, if
the County Commissioners impose the above recommendations as requirements that
must be met before Midway is allowed to operate, then we feel that we will be
able to provide adequate fire portection.
The above statement was discussed and approved by the Board of Directors on
June 22, 1982. Please note that we had requested, that Peloquin and Associates
provide us with a narrative description of the Midway proposal for our June 22
meeting of the Board. The document was not provided to us. Since our deliberations
were based upon limited information we must reserve the right to amend or
supplement the recommendations in this document if and when the requested
information is provided. 1 7
(57 ( 5
Edward S.
