- 3 5
r
- 2 -
the phase 3 maintenance hanger. All ponds must be capable of supplying
30,000 gallons of water over a 2 hour period. The water level of each
pond should be maintained at a prescribed level by wells that are auto-
matically activated when the water level falls below this level, Drafting
stations will be located and constructed to our specifications with all-
weather access provided.
We suggest to the County Commissioners that they determine whether or not
it is feasible to construct these ponds and maintain a sufficient water
supply by surface run-off and wells before any permits are granted.
The above ponds and drafting stations will put us within a 600 foot hose
lay of the principal fire exposures: The fueling areas and the maintenance
hangers. We would operate by stationing our pumper at the nearest pond and
laying hose to the fire scene.
For fires in the T-hanger area, on the runway, and in the areas beyond the
ends of the runways, we would have to set up a water' shuttle. A pumper and
portable drop tank would be stationed at the fire scene and another pump
at the nearest pond would supply water to one or more tanker trucks. We
presently have one pumper and one tanker and are investigating the feasi-
bility of acquiring a second tanker to meet the needs of our growing fire
district.
We request that this water supply be made available to us for fire fighting
in this part of our district, We also request access for periodic training
exercises.
Equipment
Flammable liquid fires are difficult to control with water alone. We,
therefore, request that Midway supply us with 200 gallons of 6% AFFF foam,
A portion of this shall be kept on our trucks and the remaining foam shall
be available to us at all times at the maintenance hanger. We also request
a supply of up to 20 gallons per year for training purposes.
We request two foam nozzles and eductors, one for a 1 1/2" line and one for
a 2 1/2" line.
We request that Midway keep and maintain at each of its three sections two
portable 50 pound dry chemical fire extinguishers, one stationed at the
fueling area, the other stationed in the T-hanger area.
As indicated above, adequate fire protection for Midway would require our
being able to supply tanker trucks with water. In the original Midway
proposal water was to be supplied by a combination of wells, pumps, storage
tanks, and hydrants capable of flowing 1000 gpm. In the present proposal,
water is to be supplied by ponds and must be pumped out in order to supply
our tankers. We, therefore, request that Midway assist us in acquiring a
pump in an amount not to exceed $10,000 (payable on demand as soon as con-
struction permits are issued). The pump will be mounted either on a trailer
pulled by our brush truck or be mounted on a separate truck.
