Dr. Lunsford, responding to Commissioners' questions <br /> about the insulation, said that some was deteriorated and some was in good con- <br /> dition. <br /> Mr. Max Kenned&speuking:as "professional builder and also as Vice-chairman <br /> of the School Board," said that the pitch of the roof is clear indication that <br /> shingles shouldn't be put back on the roof. A new roof is neededJ Mr. Kennedy <br /> invited the Commissioners over to tour the building during a ruin. He said the <br /> partial new roof was an "aspirin approach." He said the problem was smaller now <br /> and would become a larger, structural problem later. "It would be irresponsible <br /> of us to take any other stand and we stand firm in that request for the $300,000 <br /> to do the whole thing and do it as we, we the responsible parties for that par- <br /> ticular facility, we stand firm on that request. We want to do it right." <br /> Commissioner Willhoit said all parties agreed that there was a problem; he <br /> suggested that perhaps a shingle of the "appropriate design" might work for another <br /> several years since the present shingles had worked for about eleven years. He <br /> added that a capital improvements plan was needed and said the Board of Education <br /> had not evinced any interest in such planning three years ago. <br /> Mr. Bill Laws, Assistant County Manager, said there were two other options <br /> for the Stanford roof: l) a built up roof; and 2) a metal roof.
