MULTI-PURPOSE CENTER <br /> HILLSBOROUGH.N.C. 410 CALOWELL EXT. <br /> 732.0$81 CHAPEL.HILL,N.-C, <br /> 042.8760 <br /> SYEP FY'82 SUMMARY <br /> The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) will enable Orange County to <br /> pay salaries and operational expenses through September 30, 1982. The <br /> participant level represents an increase of 12% over last year's program. <br /> The main thrust of SYEP will be to involve both in-school youth and drop-outs <br /> between the ages of 14 and 21 in work experience and educational training <br /> for a total of thirty-five (35) hours per week. In addition, based on <br /> individual needs established through the assessment process between counselor <br /> and applicant, referrals will be made. Twenty (20) participants will be <br /> enrolled in summer school sponsored by the two local school systems. Twenty- <br /> four (24) dropouts will be enrolled in existing Adult Basic Education/General <br /> Education Diploma (ABE/GED) classes in Hillsborough and Chapel Hill. Instructors <br /> for these classes are paid by the Technical college of Alamance (Chapel Hill) <br /> and Durham Technical Institute (Hillsborough). For interested dropouts, <br /> classes in the morning and work experience in the afternoon totaling thirty- <br /> five (35) paid hours per week will be available. Some brief basic program <br /> information appears below: <br /> a) Program operation funds $ 188,672 <br /> b) Administration 19,003 <br /> c) Total funds requested $ 207,675 <br /> d) Participant slot level 152 <br /> e) Total participants (including those 169 <br /> who will not complete program) <br /> f) Success factor (positive terminations) 90% <br /> g) Cost per slot (total program cost 1,366 <br /> divided by total slots) <br /> h) Participant cost (total program cost 1,229 <br /> divided by total participants) <br /> i) Program duration (participant involvement) June 22 -- August 13, 1982 <br /> j) Project Duration (staff orientation, close- June 15 - September 30, 1982 <br /> out, etc.) <br /> an equal opportunity/full potential employer <br />
