/ We reviewed the strong emphasis that the State of North Carolina is putting <br /> on economic development and also realize that our neighboring counties are very <br /> active in their areas and are years ahead of us. The Carrboro Economic <br /> Development Committee and the Town of Carrboro have been addressing the <br /> problem in their area on a limited basis for about two or three years. <br /> Triangle J is also interested in economic development and have started develop: <br /> maps and to address it on a regional basis to compete with the big urban <br /> areas, <br /> It is the Chamber's feeling that if Orange County does not develop <br /> . • _ <br /> a program for the proper handling of economic development, that we are either <br /> . . <br /> going to be left out entirely, get the leftovers what other areas do not <br /> want, and/or will be left in a position of taking whatever comes to us. <br /> 'After this April meeting, it was decided that a planning retreat at ' <br /> Quail Roost should follow where we would have the opportunity to sit down <br /> and discuss the specific type of developments that would be beneficial for <br /> our area, how to develop good promotional materials and a marketing strategy <br /> plan, and how do we go about identifying available land with possible water, <br /> sewer, and transportation 7peittg availaLl= L1KLL w.e, ,_v. wal:7A. t if a c-1 .51a1,1 <br /> prospect or prospects were found. <br /> It was also necessary to identify who would take the lead in our particul <br /> area.
