, - <br /> Page 4 <br /> What increased or decreased need for services do you foresee? <br /> Technical colleges will be used more because of increase in hi hl <br /> g highly <br /> technical jobs, increased numbers of students who can not afford college, <br /> and the increased number of mature people wanting to develop new skills. <br /> Four year colleges are accepting credits more. <br /> Career counseling is in high demand. Students are increasingly <br /> using services available to them. Private counselors, not excessively <br /> priced, are busy. PREP, a nationwide franchized counseling service, will <br /> open offices here in January. <br /> Unemployment insurance will increase, although this area so, far is <br /> in better shape than most areas in the state and nation. On-the-job <br /> training and tax credits are good programs which will probably continue <br /> to be funded. <br /> JOCCA is helping senior citizens get jobs. Youth Employment Ser- <br /> vices are at the high schools. CETA has more applicants than jobs. <br /> The Triangle Women's Network tries to fascilitate employment or job <br /> changes, but they find a lack of job openings for professional women. <br /> What are some special groups with employment problems?, <br /> The young, poor, elderly, professionals, home-makers, and minorities. <br /> Women need to accept traditionally male jobs in order to increase <br /> their income. Locally the construction industry will hire anyone who <br /> learns the skills, but many women do not want to compete with their bro- <br /> thers and think they will be laughed at. _ <br /> ) <br /> What can the Commission for Women do? <br /> Support women in non-traditional jobs-by speaking to high schools and <br /> offering workshops and role models. <br /> Educate legislators about needs. <br /> Hold a meeting on tax incentives for employers. <br /> Help women be assertive in handling sexual harassment. <br /> Members of the Orange County Commission for Women who attended the <br /> meeting found it very informative and felt that the participants also <br /> learned from each other, and opened new channels of communication. <br />
