72 <br /> Brief Statement of Board/Commission's Assigned Charge and Responsibilities. 1 <br /> • The Advisory Board works cohesively with Orange County's Economic , <br /> Development staff and other economic development partners to help market <br /> Orange County as a competitive location for the recruitment & retention of business <br /> ventures, new & expanding capital investment, and the promotion of innovation <br /> start-up small businesses. <br /> • I <br /> The Advisory Board also supports the growth and recruitment of agricultural &foods <br /> systems related local businesses, promotion of entrepreneurial talent via the <br /> "LAUNCH Chapel Hill" innovation facility,and the expansion of new, high- <br /> technology employment opportunities that pay at or above a living wage. <br /> What are your Board/Commission's most important accomplishments? <br /> i <br /> • The Advisory Board approved 24 awards to small businesses totaling $114,751.00 I <br /> for the Small Business Investment Grant program in 2016. In addition, the <br /> Agriculture Economic Development Grant program approved 10 awards totaling <br /> $70,881.00 to small farmers and food processors, and the Orange County Small <br /> Business Loan program made 4 new loans totaling $340,000.00 for the year. This <br /> activity in support of small business helped inject a total of$525,632.00 in Article 46 <br /> funding throughout the County & all 3 towns for the year. <br /> • Endorsed the County's recruitment of the Wegmans Food Markets retail facility to <br /> Chapel Hill, and attended the Board of Commissioners' October 18th public hearing <br /> on financial incentives to speak in favor of the performance-based inducement <br /> agreement. The Wegmans facility offers the likely potential, over the first 6 years of <br /> operation, to create 185 full-time jobs (with full benefits), an additional 350 full-time <br /> equivalent jobs, an increase of$18.1 million in net new real and personal property <br /> tax valuation, and as much as $1.5 million in annual retail sales taxes. <br /> • Met with the County Manager's office to help shape the County's plan to issue a <br /> Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking professional consultant work on an economic <br /> development-themes SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, <br /> threats).
