Most importantly,
we continued advocacy efforts on behalf of the residents of these facilities and homes.
Overall, we maintained, or improved, our relationships with our community providers.
Additionally, CAC-members participated in important learning opportunities, including a
Death with Dignity panel, a lecture by Dr. Bill Thomas about Aging and Spirituality, and
Alzheimer's/Dementia training courses.
This information was then disseminated in various ways during facility visits and CAC
meetings. The CAC also passed a resolution recommending that all Orange County
ACHs and FCHs contact the Multi-partisan Assistance Team to ensure that all citizens
have the ability to exercise his or her right to vote (several facilities indicated that they
arranged for absentee balloting).
CAC members participated in the Orange County 2017-2022 Master Aging Plan kickoff
events. We also fostered greater community awareness of Orange County's LTC
system through various engagement efforts, including at the UNC Health and Wellness
Expo. CAC members were also involved in the creation and implementation of the
Smile Surprises initiative to distribute small uplifting gifts to facility residents.
List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually.
The OCACHCAC's primary standing annual task is conducting visits to area ACHs and
FCHs.
